Sweet Sounds

Mom called me Katie. Dad called me Goldenbird. Phoebe called me Kate. To the rest I was Kathryn, until I joined Starfleet and my name became a rank. That was fine, I was proud of the changes marking progress toward my ultimate goal, Admiral Janeway.

Then I was torn away from Earth and there was no Kathryn, only Captain Janeway. The woman was lost in the captain.

Until New Earth. Until Chakotay. There was no sweeter sound than hearing Chakotay say 'Kathryn'. Until now.

Our daughter said 'Mommy' for the first time. It's the most beautiful name I ever heard.
