I really wish this
was an episode addition to unimatrix 1, but we all know better, so I simply
had to write what I wanted to happen!

Kathryn sat in the darkness of her quarters running her hands through her hair. It was definitely nice to have hair, she thought. She let her hand wander to her forehead, she swore she could still feel the implant there, her mind was a whirl, attempting to come to grips with all that had happened.
Being assimilated was more unsettling than she thought it would be. She still remembered that feeling of the tubules going into her neck, god that hurt. And when the nanoprobes entered her body and began changing it. The pain had been unbearable, after that the only clear memory was unimatrix zero. Oh she remembered bits and pieces of being a drone, but it was still quite fuzzy.
Unimatrix zero, now how the hell was she going to deal with this? When Chakotay showed up there, she was relieved. It was good to see her friend. Not that seeing seven wasn’t a comfort, at that point seeing a familiar face was, but to see Chakotay was pure joy. She felt so free there, like she could do or say anything. So trying to kiss him only seemed natural. Damn Seven, her timing is worse than Tuvok.
They had not yet discussed those events, and she knew they would have to but she had to figure out her feelings yet.
The chime rang through her quarters, “come.”
The doors opened to let Chakotay in, “Hey how are you doing?”
“Not bad.” She answered not offering more.
“If you’re ready, I think we need to talk.”
“Hmm, no time like the present.” She was still sitting on the floor, and now she was fiddling with her fingers, “ I’m a little confused over what happened…between us. I pushed those feeling aside for so long that I didn’t even think I felt anything like that for you any more. Now, everytime I tell myself it was the place, I hear another voice say ‘no it wasn’t’”
“I understand Kathryn, this has been a lot for you to deal with. Volunteering to be assimilated, almost kissing your first officer, you’ve had a full couple of weeks.”
She laughed; he was making this a lot easier. “Chakotay, I don’t know what to do?”
“I do, first of all we have some unfinished business.” He leaned close to her, and kissed her, softly. He didn’t want to break away, but he didn’t want to push her. “I don’t want to rush anything Kathryn, we’ve both ran away from these feelings for so long, that we need to rediscover them. I know there are things, as Captain that you probably won’t want to do, umm, like, well you know, and I want to tell you that’s ok. My body has needs but I can over look that right now. I’m just putting you on warning that when we get home, you better watch out.”
“Oh Chakotay, what did I do to deserve you.” She said cupping her hand on his cheek.
“Oh I’m sure we’ll figure that out. Now that we got that out of the way, Neelix is at it again, party is going on, as we speak, in holodeck 2. We’re expected to be there.”
“Well than, what are we waiting for.” They both headed out the door.

Upon entering the holodeck Kathryn groaned, “Fair Haven, what was he thinking?”
“Well, I suppose everyone assumed at a time like this you would want to be with Michael.” Laughed Chakotay.
“Well let’s get this over with.”
They entered the pub, and we’re immediately greeted by the crew that was already there “Captain, glad you finally made it, Michael has been wondering where you are, he’s worried about you.” Tom explained.
“Well I’ll have to let him know I’m just fine. Better than fine actually.” She stole a glance at Chakotay.
“Did I miss something here.” Asked Tom.
“Of course you did Mr. Paris, but you may catch on eventually.”
“Ouch, ok I get the drift, none of my business. Well I need to find Belanna, she’s not to thrilled about this scene.” And he quickly left.
Soft music was playing in the background. “Katie, there you are love. I was afraid you weren’t coming. Please let us have this dance.” Michael was pleading with her.
She rolled her eyes, she should go dance with him, it would be the polite thing to do, “Kathryn, I think they’re playing our song.” Said Chakotay, directing her to the dance floor.”
Kathryn let herself
be led away from Michael, she knew he would be hurt, but it was a mistake
to start something in the first place, really, what was she thinking.
She let her head
rest on Chakotay’s chest as they gently swayed to the music.
“Tom, what was that.” Asked Michael walking up to Tom.
“What was what Michael.” He answered sounding confused.
“Well, if I didn’t know any better, I think Katie was just stolen from me. How could she walk away like that? How, Tom what do I do.”
“Calm down, I really don’t know what you’re talking about, Katie loves you Michael. You should know that.”
“Um Tom, you really have to see this.” Belanna interrupted. She turned Tom to face the dance floor in time to see their two commanding officer’s engage in a passionate kiss.”
